10 weeks with a little pooch

Last week we had our "First Prenatal Class" through Kaiser. It was really lame- with the internet and all of the great books out there (thanks, Beccah), we didn't learn much. I thought it would be much more informative and tell us what it will be like to give birth at Kaiser (your ObGyn doesn't do the delivery because it is a teaching school). This class should really be updated.

On that same note we have been thinking a bit about getting a doula to help with the delivery. The reason is because I am more worried about Ryan during the delivery than myself! Maybe we should get a coach for him! :-)

I have my next doctor's appointment this week- I'll keep you posted.

I have a little pooch in my belly. I guess that is only natural since my uterus is now the size of a grapefruit. I haven't gained any weight since our last appointment (uh oh)- but you wouldn't know it by the way my clothes fit. I am at that "in-between" stage that so many women seem to complain about. I am still too small for real maternity clothes but my normal clothes don't fit anymore. My body is redistrubuting the weight. For the first time I can't see my ribs! So long cute tummy. This is very frustrating, as I am sure Ryan will agree. Poor guy, he has to listen to me bitch about this daily. We did go shopping yesterday and I found some cute stuff that should fit for awhile. In the meantime, I have found that wearing pants a couple of sizes larger works, and I just read about a woman who undid her top button and held it together with a hairband. Can't wait to try that!

Speaking of Ryan, how is he doing with all of this? He is amazed daily at how big my boobs are getting. Typical male. :-) So much for Ryan waking up early. Now his alarm just goes off early but he doesn't get up for 45 minutes. That is SOOOO annoying since it wakes me up! And I can't fall back asleep. He is tired of doing the cat box and can't wait for that to be over! He is doing his best not to gain any sympathy weight, but I don't know if it is working! Beccah got him the funniest book about "Pregnancy for Dads." Too funny! But overall, he is great. I couldn't ask for a more supportive, giving, and caring husband and father for our pipsqueeks.

What else? My acne is getting better, thanks to a baby-safe prescription from the dermatologist. But it has a bleaching-agent in it so at night, I have to be very careful not to get our burgundy sheets on my face. What a pain in the ass that is. But I have no morning sickness, so I am going to stop complaining. :-)

Look at my little pooch!

9 weeks- so we told a few people

SURPRISE to all who are reading this for the first time!

Well, we just couldn't keep this in any longer. We decided to let those closest to us know. The reason for not saying anything was obvious, at least we thought. In the event that something happened, we didn't want to be answering questions. But we realized that if something DID happen, you are the people we'd want to go through this with. But, nothing will happen...so...

153 pounds. Yuch. But I feel fine. Still haven't had any morning sickness. My acne is pretty bad so I saw the dermatologist this past week. Since I am pregnant, there aren't a whole lot of options. But we are trying a few. I have had some pretty nasty headaches though, and feel tired during the day. Oh, and Ryan will be the first to tell you how moody I am.

I joined a gym (thanks, Heather!) and got a personal trainer. He is teaching me how to strengthen my core so that my back with be able to support the weight. Glad I did this.

What else? Oh, we have our first prenatal class this Tuesday so that should be interesting.

Thanksgiving is this week and we are heading to Tahoe again for what will probably be our last QUIET TurkeyDay together. We are really looking forward to that, but also eagerly anticipating the new changes in our lives.

Ok, signing off for this week. Check back weekly as we update the blog each weekend.

8 weeks- had first doctor's appointment

Ok, I am grossed out. I just watched a placenta being delivered. My high school sex-ed class forgot to show us this part. Ewe, ewe, ewe.

We had our first appointment last Wednesday. Sure enough, there was a baby! And thank goodness, there was only one! Everything looked good. The baby measured nearly a half inch with a due date of June 24th. It appears I have already gained a little weight. I am not happy about this so I joined a gym. :-)

Ewe. Flashback.

I am still very fortunate to have not had any morning sickness that involves vomiting. Sometimes my tummy feels a bit sour, but I just keep a lot of pretzels by my side. It takes me until about 2pm before I feel like 100%.

My boobs feel like they have tripled in size- according to babycenter.com they will soon become a shelf.

Other than that, we are doing good! It's hard not to tell anyone. It has become such a natural part of our daily conversation and we can't wait to share the news!

7 weeks- I have a lot of gas, but it doesn't stink

Ok, so I don't want a picture this week. I feel like a cow! My boobs are like canteloupes. Not that they are juicy or anything, just HEAVY. Ryan's not happy with me. I said we could take his picture.

Can we just say...EMOTIONAL? Yech.

I think I had a tiny bout of morning sickness, but if I eat something immediately upon waking, I seem to be fine. Although I REALLY hate eating that early. I was never a fan of breakfast!

Speaking of being up early, Ryan is a new man. His alarm now goes off at 7am and it is my job to get him out of bed by 7:15. The other day, his alarm went off at 7:00 and I heard him reset it. I went to his alarm, saw that he reset it for 7:50, and woke him right up. Uh uh, nope. Up by 7:15!

Not sure what that has to do with our baby, except that perhaps he is working towards waking up early.

We have our first doctor appointment this week. We will keep you posted.

Ryan was reading something that pets can sense when their owner is pregnant. I wonder if Abby and Chuckie know. I hope Abby is ok; she is having an ultrasound tomorrow. Like mother like daughter.

I guess I should point out that our baby is the size of a raspberry. It is kinda odd imagining a round, bumpy, seeded object in my tummy. Especially one that is red.

On to 6 weeks

Oh joy oh rapture. 6 weeks and counting. 148 pounds. No morning sickness, no food aversions. But my boobs really hurt, I am quite tired, and I had a pretty serious bloody nose yesterday. Ryan immediately went to the baby book and found this was common. Phew. Not to worry. He also found that my stuffy nose was common. But overall, I feel good. Christy and I even walked a half maration last weekend in 3:34:56.

I think my emotions are starting to get the best of me. Poor Ryan. The hardest thing about all of this is not having my mom. Since she died, I never really felt scared not having her around. But I am scared now. I know I will be a great mom, but I don't know if I will be a great pregnant person. It is very lonely without her. I do have women in my life who mean the world to me, but nobody can replace your mom. She is the one who carried me. I want to know if I am experiencing the same things she did. I am so paranoid right now.

Thank goodness for Ryan. And my orange teddy bear cat. They are both willing to cuddle when I am sad. And who wouldn't want to cuddle with these?

5 weeks and counting!

Although we don't see the doctor for 2 more weeks, we are pretty sure we are about 5 weeks along. That means our baby is the size of a sesame seed! That also means that we are due right around Ryan's B'day, my dad's b'day, Amy's b'day, and father's day. Whew!

DUE DATE: June 23, 2007 (although this could change once we see the doctor)

This week our baby's heart divides into chambers and actually begins to beat and pump blood! Wow! Amazing that something so small can do this already.

I've been feeling really well. (Knock on wood) I haven't had any morning sickness, wierd cravings, or aversions to food. I am sure this will all change. My boobs KILL and the only thing that is comfortable is a sports bra. I'm gonna have to go get some cute ones. A few times throughout the day I feel a gentle burning/cramping kind of sensation around my belly button. Nothing I can't handle!

Anyhow, we are still in shock and realizing that 8 months isn't very far away. Normally, when you think of 8 months away, its seems like a lifetime. But not in this case!

Well, its official...

WE ARE PREGNANT! Just found out yesterday (10/18/06). We are very lucky that it didn't take too long. Although Ryan was looking forward to a lot more practicing! (chuckle)

We decided not to tell anyone until 3 months are up, with the exception of 2 people: Janie, Ryan's mom, and Amy, my sister. We told Janie because her mom just died 1 1/2 weeks ago. It wasn't easy losing her mom (it never is) and we thought the news about this new little life would really cheer her up, which it did! And then we told Amy because not only is she my sis but she is a nurse. I wanted to be able to talk to someone who would immediately pick up the phone and give me "there there's", but also give me medical support. They aren't happy about being sworn to secrecy, but they don't have a choice! But at least everyone is reading this blog for the first time.

See Janie, it was easy not telling!
